What is E-Ink Screen

E-Ink screen, also referred as “Electronic Paper Display”, is a display technology that looks like paper with high visibility and contrast.Nowadays It is commonly used in eReaders due to its unique attributes: no glare (paper-like), low power consumption, easy on eyes.

The basic difference between e-readers and different types of devices used to display content (TVs, smartphones, tablets, etc.) is the technology of the screen. E-readers utilize E Ink Electronic Paper Display, commonly called e-paper. The two pigment electronic ink system is made up of millions of tiny microcapsules, each about the diameter of a human hair. Each microcapsule contains positively charged white particles and negatively charged black particles suspended in a clear fluid. When a positive or negative electric field is applied, corresponding particles move to the top of the microcapsule where they become visible to the viewer. This makes the surface appear white or black at that spot.

Advantages of E-Ink Screen

· Lower Power Consumption

E-Ink technology does not require power source to retain image on E-Ink screen. In other words, only when you turn pages, the displays would consume power. This significantly reduce the power consumption. 1 AA battery can last over 20 Hours (1,000 pageturns) for a 12” ePaper-Equipped Device while 12” LCD-Equipped Device requires 36 AA Batteries for same performance.

· Less Eye Strain / Easy on Eyes

E-Ink screen is also referred as reflective screen, which means ambient light from environment is reflected from the surface of the screen back to reader’s eyes. It works just like when you read traditional printed paperbacks.
